Burglar-resistant elements such as doors or windows are designed to withstand a forced break-in attempt for as long as possible. This significantly increases the effort required by the burglar – he needs more time and special tools. The security of these products is specified in standardised resistance classes (RC1 to RC6 in accordance with DIN EN 1627). The higher the class, the more resistant the component is.
Burglar-resistance / burglar-proof?
The term “burglar-proof” sounds absolute but is not entirely clear in practice. No product can prevent a break-in with absolute certainty. The decisive advantage lies in deterrence: many burglaries fail if the housebreaker does not get into the building quickly enough. The delay therefore increases the chance that the break-in will be cancelled. Burglar resistance is therefore an important contribution to greater security in your own home. This is why the correct term is “burglar-resistant”.
